Quarteira used to be a small fishing village that has grown
since the 1960s into a major tourist location you can still find a lot
of varieties of fresh fish in the Mercado “Local Market”.
Blocks of holiday apartments now dwarf the older area of the town. Quarteira
has an ideal location, it lies next door to the well-known and popular
Vilamoura with is Marina and Casino. Quarteira is a popular holiday resort
with is 2Km of blue flag beach.
It also enjoys its own loyal tourists who return annually to make use
of its long open sandy beach and promenade.
A little to the east of the town is Fonte Santa where a natural spring
is said to have healing qualities. Reasonably close to Quarteira in the
eastern coast you will find beaches such as Traffal, Vale de Lobo, Garrao,
Ancao and Quinta do Logo. Well recommended for people who like to walk
by the seaside.
